A History of Royal Mistresses
The Château Louise de La Vallière stands as a pure example of Renaissance architecture in the Loire Valley. Louise de La Vallière, the future Duchess, spent part of her childhood between the Hôtel de Crouzille in Tours, where she was born, and the Château de La Vallière in Reugny, acquired by her great-grandfather in 1542. At the age of 17, in 1661, she was presented to Louis XIV, who fell deeply in love with her. Louise reciprocated his affection before entering a convent at the age of 31.
